A Year in Review
January 2004:
- Found out that those stoplight-cameras really do work, when I got a ticket in the mail.
- Met Clay Aiken. Twice. And his mom. (Seriously. I know that sounds like a joke, but I really did meet Clay Aiken’s mom. Her name is Fay. Seriously…. This was the weirdest thing that happened to me all year.)
February 2004:
- Got my first-ever speeding ticket. (2004 was “The Year of the Ticket.”)
March 2004:
- Had to buy my first real suit. (2004 was also “The Year of Having To Do Frighteningly Adult Things.”)
April 2004:
- Took my first ever business trip.
- Turned 24.
May 2004:
- Started learning how to use Flash. (I thought I should do this since, according to my resume, I’m “highly experienced” in it.)
- Visited Krispy Kreme headquarters (hell yeah).
June 2004:
- Nothing much happened. It was hot.
July 2004:
- It got hotter.
August 2004:
- Got a summons to serve jury duty.
- Went to Michigan to get a letterpress.
- Launched the redo of my website.
September 2004:
- Quickly developed an all-consuming hatred for the word “blog.” (It just sounds like some kind of swamp monster, doesn’t it? “The Blog.”)
- Went to dinner with my family and told them I was thinking about proposing to Steph at Christmas. (Family, especially sister, reacted with outpouring of love and support: “That was the ‘big news’ you had to tell us?!? That you’re thinking about asking Steph to marry you in three months!?! We thought you actually had something exciting to tell us. You are such an idiot.”)
- Started on an engagement ring design.
October 2004:
- Visited Minneapolis/St. Paul. (Coolest place I went all year.)
November 2004:
- Voted in a presidential election for the second time.
- Considered not voting next time around, and seeing if things turn out any better that way.
- Drove the boss’ BMW Z3. (Coolest car I drove all year. Went slowly and carefully, so as not to get a ticket.)
- Started learning to set type and print with the letterpress.
December 2004:
- Learned (quickly) gumball machine repair.
- Got engaged.
