320. Museum of Hoaxes
A collection of stories, feats, and events that the site’s proprietor(s) have reason to believe are fradulent. (Warning: could be little disappointing for you. I, for example, loved that street soccer video mentioned on the first page, mainly because I had no idea how the kids involved had gotten so skilled. I’d never even considered that it was fake. Now I’m thinking it probably is.)
319. 79 Years of Best Picture Winners in Posters
Interesting, of course, from a film studies perspective but also from a graphic design perspective. For example, you can physically see the industry shift from using primarily illustration to using primarily photography (happened around 1980).
318. The Art of Manliness
A site dedicated to the exploration and explanation of all things “manly.” Some of the articles are, as you might expect, based on the over-the-top stereotype of what it is to be a man and quite silly, but there’s actually a great deal of serious advice here too.
317. Zuma
Simple concept. Perfect sound effects. High potental of ending up in a desperate situation. Great game.
316. Top 10 Albums That Every Music Snob Name Checks
I’ve only heard half of these records before, and I only own three of them. Does this mean I have to surrender my thick-rimmed glasses? (Incidentally, I would add Neutral Milk Hotel’s Aeroplane Over the Sea to this list as #11 and My Bloody Valentine’s Loveless as #12.)
315. Speedcabling
“…a competitive sport created by steven schkolne in which contestants race to unravel a bundle of wires.” For real.
314. The 100 Scariest Movie Scenes
Ok, I haven’t seen all of these, but I’ve got to think those first two scenes from The Shining and the one from The Ring should be ranked higher. Also a scene from What Lies Beneath deserves a place on here somewhere. That movie was too frightening not to be on this list.
313. The Paper Camera
A template for making a pinhole camera from a few sheets of cardstock. The images from the gallery prove it really works! This site has an impressive collection of online pinhole resources too, including a link to PinholeCalc, a free app someone has written for determining proper exposure length.
312. Electoral Compass USA
Answer a series of agree/disagree questions and this site will tell you which of the remaining candidates is most closely aligned with you on the issues.
311. Gorillaz Room Attache
A game on the Gorillaz band website (of all places) that tests your ability to pack a suitcase. And, yes, all the items fit in without a single square left open.
